As the AMOLED market has grown, related companies are busy at development to reduce manufacturing costs. Cavity glass is used for protecting OLED from humility and external impact.
Cavity glass is one of material cost factors. Most of OLED panel companies want to replace cavity glass to non cavity glass.
When an OLED is direct contact with a non cavity glass, the device can be damage by pressures and scratches in process. Accordingly, OLED with non cavity glass needs space to prevent device’s damage.
Top emission AMOLEDs for mobile have 10~20μm gap between upper glass for encapsulation and emitting layer. PMOLED is made with 100~200μm gap to attach desiccant in a cavity.
Recently, AMOLEDs is applied the non cavity glass technology.
The technology is inserting a spacer into PDL (pixel define layer), which can make some distance between emitting layer and non cavity glass.
It can reduce manufacturing cost of OLED.
